Lesson Add-ons
& Instructor Pay

Four instructors in bright green uniforms looking out over the lake at Blue Mountain

TXSNOW offers lesson add-ons for specialist skills and Course Conductor (ski) or Evaluator (snowboard) qualifications. If you hold an eligible qualification, you may include the relevant add-on in your quote, based on the student’s needs and your agreement with the customer. The customer pays the base lesson price plus any agreed add-ons, and you receive the corresponding Add-on Premium.

The listed add-on prices are recommended rates. You can choose whether to apply an eligible add-on; holding the qualification does not make it mandatory for every lesson.

All amounts are in Canadian dollars (CAD).

1. Types of add-ons

1. Skill Add-ons

These add-ons are available to instructors with the following specialist qualifications:

Skill Add-onPer 2HAdd-on Premium / 2H
Snowboard Park1$20$10
Snowboard Park2$40$20
Snowboard Carving$20$10

How Park certification affects a ski instructor’s rate

If you hold both ski instructor and Park certifications, compare the pricing tier for each qualification. The higher tier determines both the base lesson price and your Base Rate.

Ski Park1 is priced at the Level 2 instructor tier, and Ski Park2 at the Level 3 instructor tier. If both certifications place you in the same tier, your instructor certification level takes precedence.

Qualifications heldApplicable pricing tier
Ski Level 1 + Park1Ski Park1 tier, equivalent to the Level 2 instructor tier
Ski Park1 + Park2Ski Park2 tier, equivalent to the Level 3 instructor tier
Ski Level 3 + Park2Level 3 instructor tier

Holding several certificates does not increase your Base Rate beyond the highest applicable tier. There is no separate Skill Add-on for Ski Park certification. Ski Park Course Conductor qualifications are covered by the Course Conductor / Evaluator Add-on rules below.

2. Course Conductor / Evaluator Add-ons

These add-ons are available to instructors who hold the following Course Conductor (ski) or Evaluator (snowboard) qualifications:

Course Conductor / Evaluator Add-onPer 2HAdd-on Premium / 2H
Level 1 Course Conductor / Evaluator$20$10
Level 2 Course Conductor / Evaluator$40$20
Level 3 Course Conductor / Evaluator$60$30
Level 4 Course Conductor / Evaluator$90$45
Ski Park Level 1 Course Conductor$20$10
Ski Park Level 2 Course Conductor$40$20

These add-on prices and premiums are the same at Blue Mountain, MSLM and all other resorts.

2. How your qualifications determine your rate

If you hold qualifications at several levels or in both skiing and snowboarding, your highest applicable instructor tier determines the base lesson price and your Base Rate. Your highest applicable Course Conductor or Evaluator qualification determines that add-on.

Within each qualification category, only the highest level counts. Lower qualifications do not generate additional add-ons, and skills already covered by a higher qualification cannot be charged separately.

In the examples below, “4+3” means “Level 4 Instructor + Level 3 Course Conductor / Evaluator,” and “3+2” means “Level 3 Instructor + Level 2 Course Conductor / Evaluator.” Use Course Conductor for skiing and Evaluator for snowboarding. Park qualifications are listed separately.

Example 1: Snowboard 4+3 and Ski 2+1

Use the following combination:

Level 4 instructor base tier + Level 3 Evaluator Add-on.

The Ski Level 2 Instructor and Level 1 Course Conductor qualifications do not generate any additional payment.

Example 2: Snowboard 3+2

Use the following combination:

Level 3 instructor base tier + Level 2 Evaluator Add-on.

Park1 is already included in the Level 3 instructor qualification, so no separate Park1 Add-on applies.

Example 3: Snowboard 3+2 with Park2

The instructor may choose to combine:

Level 3 instructor base tier + Level 2 Evaluator Add-on + Snowboard Park2 Skill Add-on.

Here, Park2 is a separate specialist qualification, so its add-on can be combined with the Level 2 Evaluator Add-on. You and the customer must agree on the add-ons before the customer purchases the lesson.

3. Add-ons are optional

Add-ons give instructors flexibility when quoting lesson prices.

  • When you sell your own lessons, you may include eligible add-ons. Explain the price to the customer before they purchase.
  • You may also choose to sell a lesson at the applicable base price, with no add-ons.
  • If TXSNOW posts a lesson without add-ons, you may accept it at the Base Rate shown for that order.

Choose whether to apply an eligible add-on based on the lesson content and the student’s needs.

If you choose not to apply an add-on, the customer is not charged for it and you do not receive its Add-on Premium. Your qualification level stays the same.

Your quote should clearly list the add-ons included and the total lesson price.

4. Add-on pricing by lesson duration

Each add-on is priced in two-hour blocks:

Lesson durationHow add-ons are calculated
Less than 2H, such as 45 minutes, 1H or 90 minutesNo add-ons apply; no prorating
2H1 unit of each selected add-on
4H2 units of each selected add-on

Use the rate table for the relevant program, lesson duration, group size and resort to find the base lesson price and Base Rate. These rates cannot be replaced by a flat hourly calculation.

5. Group lessons: add-ons apply per instructor, not per student

For regular group lessons taught by one instructor, the same add-on rates apply as for one-on-one lessons. Each selected add-on is charged once per two-hour lesson, regardless of the number of students.

For example, a Level 2 snowboard instructor teaches a two-hour lesson for three students with the Snowboard Park1 Add-on:

  • The total lesson price for the group increases by $20.
  • The instructor receives an additional $10.
  • The group pays $20 in add-on charges, not $60. The instructor receives a $10 Add-on Premium, not $30.

The base lesson price and Base Rate for a regular group lesson still depend on the number of students. Use the corresponding rates in the group lesson table.

6. Dynamic Group Lesson · 2:4 — rates by instructor level

For Dynamic Group Lesson · 2:4, lesson pricing and instructor pay are based on the instructor’s certification level. Refer to the dynamic group lesson rate table for the applicable amounts.

Additional qualifications, including Course Conductor, Evaluator, Park and Carving, do not change the rate or qualify for add-ons.

A Level 3 instructor is paid at the Level 3 dynamic group lesson rate, even if they also hold a Level 2 Course Conductor / Evaluator qualification and Park2 certification.

7. Lesson pricing and instructor pay

Lesson price = base lesson price + selected add-on charges.

Instructor’s lesson earnings = Base Rate + applicable Add-on Premiums.

Lesson Sales Commission and the New Student Referral Bonus are calculated separately under their respective rules. Applying an add-on does not increase either payment.

The examples below are for two-hour, one-on-one lessons in the 12+ Academy Progression Series at MSLM and other resorts. Each example assumes that the listed add-ons have been selected:

Instructor qualifications and selected add-onsCustomer’s lesson priceBase Rate + Add-on Premium
Snowboard Level 2 + Park1$229 + $20 = $249$155 + $10 = $165
Level 4 Instructor + Level 3 Course Conductor / Evaluator$399 + $60 = $459$280 + $30 = $310
Snowboard Level 3 + Level 2 Evaluator$299 + $40 = $339$220 + $20 = $240
Snowboard Level 3 + Level 2 Evaluator + Park2$299 + $40 + $40 = $379$220 + $20 + $20 = $260

The figures above do not include Lesson Sales Commission or the New Student Referral Bonus. In the first example, an instructor who also qualifies for a $10 Lesson Sales Commission and a $10 New Student Referral Bonus would earn:

$155 Base Rate + $10 Add-on Premium + $10 Lesson Sales Commission + $10 New Student Referral Bonus = $185.

The same rules apply to eligible Kids Master Program lessons. For example, a Level 2 snowboard instructor with the required KM qualification teaches a two-hour Young Adventurers lesson at MSLM with the Park1 Add-on:

Customer’s lesson price: $259 + $20 = $279.
Instructor’s Base Rate + Add-on Premium: $160 + $10 = $170.
With both the Lesson Sales Commission and the New Student Referral Bonus, total earnings would be $190.

For the equivalent two-hour lessons at Blue Mountain, the base lesson price is $10 higher and the instructor’s Base Rate is $5 higher. Add-on prices and premiums remain the same.
